Great Graffiti/Public Art
The streets of melbourne is a place I feel quite at home, even though I’ve only been there three times. Why do I feel at home? Because the streets are infested with fantastic art works. One of the many semi-hidden glories of the busy city streets is a lengthy alley way that smells of urine, alchohol and stale cigarettes. But that luckily isn’t the glory of it. Looking at the walls, you realise you are surrounded with beautiful graffiti. It goes up higher than you can see properly, so that top area will always be a mystery. The graffiti isn’t tasteless tagging and slander, but art works. You want to stay in this disgusting alley way longer but the stench is just a little too overwhelming. Other than the graffiti, there are massive sculptures, the odd building is an eye sore [i saw one that was neon green and black, as well as VERY oddly shaped], artists sitting on the sidewalks selling their works. I also came across a massive sky scraper building with giant silver bumblebees along one of the sides. Well I could go on for ages about how filled with art Melbourne is, but I’ll leave that for another time.
